Bei der Primärdiagnostik und beim Staging von Malignomen des oberen Gastrointestinaltrakt (OGIT) können Anamnese, Klinik, verschiedene bildgebende Verfahren, Laboruntersuchungen und die chirurgische Exploration eine Rolle spielen. Im Folgenden soll der Stellenwert der Endoskopie beleuchtet werden. Die moderne Endoskopie kann Diagnostik und Therapie in einem bieten. Daher ist es für den onkologisch tätigen Arzt hilfreich, die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Endoskopie in der onkologischen Diagnostik zu kennen.
