Schmerz und Schmerzmanagement bei Pferden – Wo stehen wir heute?

In den letzten 20 bis 30 Jahren sind im Bereich der Schmerzerkennung und -therapie beim Pferd große Fortschritte zu verzeichnen. Dennoch wird der Einsatz von Analgetika in der Pferdemedizin immer noch von einem Abwägen von Nutzen, Nebenwirkungen und wirtschaftlichen Faktoren bestimmt. Trotz neuer Studien ist es weiterhin schwierig, Schmerzen und deren Ausmaß bei Pferden aufgrund ihres besonderen Verhaltens subjektiv einzuschätzen. Optimale Strategien für eine erfolgreiche Schmerztherapie basieren somit auf der Einschätzung des Schweregrads und der Pathogenese. Im Folgenden sollen verschiedene Möglichkeiten der Schmerztherapie sowohl bei akuten wie auch bei chronischen Schmerzzuständen diskutiert werden.
