Tacrolimus ist ein hoch effektives Immunsuppressivum zur Prävention von Abstoßungsreaktionen nach Nieren- und Lebertransplantationen. Verschiedene Faktoren wie eine enge therapeutische Breite, notwendige individuelle Einstellungen der Dosis und eine schlechte Bioverfügbarkeit können jedoch das Therapiemanagement erschweren und eventuell den Therapieerfolg gefährden. Dies war die Rationale für die Entwicklung des kürzlich zugelassenen Tacrolimus-Präparats (Envarsus®), bei dem durch eine innovative Freisetzungstechnologie bei nur einmal täglicher Gabe eine gleichmäßigere Wirkstoffkonzentration innerhalb des optimalen therapeutischen Bereichs erreicht werden kann.
