Scintigraphy of Symptomless Metastases of Mammary Cancer in the Spine

Summary

The paper forms a brief account of preliminary results of the routine scintigraphic search for symptomless bone metastases in breast cancer patients accepted to the Institute of Oncology, Warsaw, for radiotherapy, as performed regardless of the advancement of the disease and the type of treatment (alone or combined; radical or palliative). 103 patients were examined in 12 months’ time. Five selected cases are described and briefly discussed, and respective scans are shown. It is concluded that scintigraphy enables demonstration of symptomless metastases of cancer of the breast in the bones, which is of utmost importance for establishing realistic prognosis and for planning of proper treatment.

On resume les résultats préliminaires d’une recherche par scintigraphie exécutée en routine sur toutes les malades de cancers mammaires acceptées pour le traitement par radiothérapie dans l’institut d’oncologie de Varsovie. La thérapie a été exécutée sans respect de l’avancement de la maladie et du genre de la thérapie (seule ou combinée, palliative ou radicale). 103 malades ont été examinées en 12 mois. 5 cas sont décrits et les scintigraphies sont présentées. Il est conclus, que la scintigraphic, permet de demontrer des metastases osseuses des cancers mammaires. Celà et d’un intérêt particulièrement important pour établir un prognostique réalistique et pour étaler un propre plan de traitement .

Es wird ein kurzer Abriß der vorläufigen Ergebnisse der routinemäßigen szintigraphischen Suche nach symptomlosen Knochenmetastasen bei Patienten mit Mamma-Karzinom, die im Institut für Onkologie in Warschau zur Radiotherapie aufgenommen wurden, gegeben. Die Untersuchung erfolgte unabhängig vom Fortschritt der Erkrankung und von der Art der Behandlung (ausschließlich oder kombiniert ; radikal oder palliativ) . Innerhalb 12 Monaten wurden 103 Patienten untersucht. Fünf ausgewählte Fälle werden beschrieben und kurz diskutiert sowie die entsprechenden Szintigramme vorgewiesen. Es wird der Schluß gezogen, daß die Szintigraphie den Nachweis von symptomlosen Knochenmetastasen des Brust-krebses ermöglicht. Dies ist von größter Bedeutung für die Erstellung einer realistischen Prognose und die Planung einer entsprechenden Behandlung.
