Erfolgreiche Behandlung einer Early-onset-Schizophrenie mit Olanzapin

Zusammenfassung

Ein zwölfjähriger Junge wurde von seiner Mutter wegen zunehmender schulischer Leistungsschwäche vorgestellt. Es zeigte sich, dass der junge Patient zusätzlich an akustischen Halluzinationen in Form kommentierender Stimmen und an unspezifischen Verfolgungsideen und psychotischen Ängsten litt. Der Patient wurde daher unter der Diagnose einer Early-onset-Schizophrenie mit dem Neuroleptikum der zweiten Generation Olanzapin behandelt. Bereits nach zwei Wochen kam es zu einer vollständigen Remission der Erkrankung. Nach neun Monaten wurde die Medikation ausgesetzt und der Patient ist jetzt seit 18 Monaten ohne Medikation rezidivfrei. Mit Ausnahme einer leichten Gewichtszunahme von weniger als fünf Kilogramm traten keine erkennbaren Nebenwirkungen auf.

Summary

A twelve year old male patient was presented by his mother for deteriorated school results. In addition he suffered from acoustic hallucinations (commenting voices), paranoid delusions (feeling persecuted) and psychotic fears. Diagnosed early onset schizophrenia, an olanzapine treatment was started leading to complete remission within a fortnight.After continuing this medication for nine months, medication was cut and the patient has been symptom free for 18 months without further medication by now. Except for light weight gain (less than 5 kg) there were no detectable side effects.
