Der p 23 sensitization in house dust mit allergic patients
Background:
Molecular diagnostics are more and more used in daily allergological routine. Der p 23 is a new house dust mite component with sensitization rates of more than 70%. Aim of the study was the determination of specific IgE antibodies against Der p 23 in house dust mite allergic patients.
Material and Methods:
Sera of house dust mite allergic patients (positive skin prick test, positive reactions to specific IgE to the house dust mite extract D pter, positive intranasal provocation test) from our allergy serum bank was tested against specific IgE to Der p 1, Der p 2 (both major allergens) and Der p 23 (new major allergen).
Results:
127 patients could be included in the study. 73% showed reactions to Der p 1 and 83% to Der p 2. In 47% specific IgE to Der p 23 could be detected.
Conclusion:
Our study cohort from the area around munich showed specific IgE antibodies to Der p 23 only in 47%. This is in line with results from the area around Berlin, but is clearly below the sensitization prevalence in other European countries (Austria 70%, France 80%, Italy 87%). The knowledge of different regional sensitization-profiles can be useful for treatment decisions in the future.
