Endoscopic ear surgery: past, present and future
Introduction:
Binocular microscopic surgery relies on line of sight approaches to access the middle ear and mastoid and remains the bedrock of the contemporary otologic surgical practice. Recently, advances in endoscopic and video technology and a growing body of published outcomes have paved the way for the emergence of endoscopic ear surgery (EES).
Methods:
Review of endoscopic ear surgery.
Results:
I will address routine and complex middle ear disease using the external auditory canal as the primary surgical corridor.
Conclusions:
In this presentation, I will give a historical perspective on EES, review current trends, outcomes, and pearls and pitfalls with modern EES approaches, and provide a glimpse of future trends in EES.
