Introduction

Head injury is a great public health problem, with everincreasing vehicular traffic and modernization. In India, it has increased to an extent that more than 400 people die every day due to head injuries. In the 1980s and 1990s, world of neurosurgery was moving rapidly toward development of subspecialization of neurosurgery. Among them, neurotrauma was the most important one. In India, the Neurological Society of India (NSI) was the parent body of neuroscientists. In 1989, a significant change came in the field of neurosciences, as the World Federation of Neurosurgeon, the World Federation of Neurology, and the International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery (ISPN) had their meeting in India, which provided rapid subspecialization in the 1990s. In the process of development of neurosciences in India, over the years, the Neurotrauma Society of India (NTSI) has played an important role in management of trauma patients.
