Otitis media complications in children
University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Victor Babes", TimisoaraObjectives:
Despite the broad spectrum of antibiotics at our disposal otitis media complications still occur. The purpose of this study is to review our experience and management of otitis media complications.
Materials and methods:
This is a retrospective study performed at our hospital for the period from 2009 to 2018. The study includes patients diagnosed with extracranial, intracranial and intratemporal complications secondary to acute or chronic otitis media.
Results:
Twelve patients were included in this study. Ages ranged from 5 to 18 years, with no gender predilection. All patients received surgical treatment and broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotics in our department.
Conclusion:
Broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotics combined with surgical treatment can avoid complication evolution.
