Latera, minimal invasive therapeutic option for treatment of NVC with a resorbable implant: A review

Background Latera offers a new option for minimal invasive treatment of nasal valve collapse or lateral wall insufficiency. Since the first in-man-study showed a good safety profile and efficacy of the implant up to 24 months after the implantation, other prospective clinical studies followed.

Material and Methods Metaanalysis of published data with focus on safety and efficacy of the implant.

Results Up to now 434 patients were treated (EU, USA) as part of clinical trials with the implant. 30 patients were treated with the implant solely, 101 patients received the implant ± septoplasty and/or turbinoplasty, 166 patients were implanted ± turbinoplasty in an office setting and 137 were treated in a placebo-controlled manner (71 verum, 66 placebo). Clinical visits took place at least until 3 months and up to 24 months after implantation. Overall a significant reduction in NOSE score was seen. 84 (11,9 %) device related adverse events were reported and 38 (5,4 %) implants had to be retrieved. All (100 %) events resolved with no clinical sequelae.

Conclusion The data published up to now confirms the safety and efficacy of the implant – implanted solely or in combination with common nasal surgeries.
