Abstract
Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is the working diagnosis of patients with acute chest
pain and a presumed insufficient myocardial perfusion. Prognosis of myocardial infarction
with delayed or incorrect treatment is poor, therefore rapid diagnosis is essential.
Since chest pain is frequent, all medical personal is likely to be confronted with
ACS patients in everyday practice. Even for cardiologist however, treatment of ACS
patients can be challenging.
This review article covers all ACS subtypes including ST-elevation myocardial infarction,
non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction and instable angina. Pathophysiology and clinical
presentation are addressed and algorisms on diagnosis and treatment are supplied.
Information including exact doses of all drugs with indication in ACS patients is
given. All information is based on current treatment guidelines.
