Traditional Japanese Kampo Medicine. Part 5: The Regulatory Situation of Herbal Medicinal Products and Related Product Categories in Japan

The regulatory situation of herbal medicinal products (including formulations of tra­ditional Japanese Kampo medicine) and related product categories in Japan is much more complicated than the respective EU regulations. In order to facilitate a common understanding between Japanese Kampo medicine and Western phytotherapy, this article aims to explain the basic legal categories of Japanese regulatory affairs for phytomedicines to a German audience. Therefore, the following pages contain translations of these technical terms, including an explanation of the respective background information necessary for their understanding.
