Abstract

There is a wide range of indications for the use of a transpalatal arch. It is applicable in numerous clinical situations, both in passive form to reinforce anchorage and maintain the transversal width after expansion as well as in active form. Modifications of the conventional used transpalatal bar by Goshgarian have already been described due to their favorable material properties and form. The S-Garian transpalatal arch (Savaria dent) has a bigger middle loop-design so the moments and forces transmitted are less compared to the Goshgarian type. In active form the S-Garian can be used to derotate the molars, correct a posterior crossbite or to correct the position of the molars. The S-Garian is reactivated directly in the patient’s mouth by a specially developed plier.
