In addition to diagnostic purposes endoscopy in gastroenterology has developed a main focus in therapeutic procedures. This applies mainly endoscopic resection of early GI - Neoplasia and pancreato-biliary procedures. Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) has opened a new field for therapy of oesophageal motility disorders. This review highlights especially therapeutic endoscopic procedures and their significance for the future.
