Unilateral severe hearing loss bordering on deafness in childhood and adolescence are rare. The prevalence in germany is estimated at 0.01%. Large Vestibular Aqueduct Syndrome is one of the most common causes of progressive hearing loss or deafness in childhood. This is an enlargement of the endolymphatic duct and sac, which is associated with sensorineural hearing loss. It can occur on both sides and there can also be other malformations of the inner ear. In this work we report on a 7-year-old boy with a newly occurring, unilateral deafness in the context of an LVAS with successful cochlear implant treatment.
