Postmortem air in the cochlea
Introduction
Decay starts right after death. It is well known that decay begins in the lower left abdomen and spreads from there through the body. Aim of our study was to observe enclosed air after death in the cochlea.
Material:
50 non traumatic deceased patients were examined with a high resolution computed tomography after death.
Results
Postmortal enclosed air can be found in the cochlea. With an increased interval between death and computed tomographie more air was found in the cochlea.
Discussion
Postmortal enclosed air can be found in the cochlea. If the in´terval between death and computed tomography is small less enclosed air is visible. For temporal bone studies it is necessary to know intracochlea characteristics.
