Introduction As is well known, students learn a lot of theoretical knowledge in medicine studies, but are often confronted with other skills and competences at the beginning of their career, which they find difficult with in everyday work.

Materials and methods As part of the development of the model course at the University of Augsburg, the idea of a medical competence training came up. The concept provides for students to work independently on topics that will ultimately be presented in the form of a product. They receive work instructions and information material. The products are created in a 2-3 week work phase, which includes several teaching units in the form of small groups, seminars etc. and phases of independent work. The teachers act as moderators and advisors. The aim is to teach the students how to work independently and thereby acquire medical skills that are essential for every doctor in their professional life. The graduate profile in the catalog of learning objectives (NKLM 2.0) includes Entrustable Professional Activities, which means taking an anamnesis appropriate to the situation or creating a diagnostic work plan as part of an inpatient admission, for example.

Results "[ækt]Survival Guide for the first duty” was offered for the first time in the winter semester 2022/23. After a 2-week work phase a booklet about the topic of stridor was created in the ENT department, which deals with both professional competences and medicine knowledge in the emergency service.

Discussion In contrast to traditional teaching methods, the aim of teaching in the model course is student-centred and case-based learning. In addition, value is placed on the professional competences.
