70-80% of all cerebellopontine angle tumors are vestibular schwannomas. The incidence is 0.9-2.4%. Intralabyrinthine schwannomas (ILS) should be mentioned as a small subgroup. In turn, 50% of ILS are intracochlear schwannomas – with the most common symptom of sudden hearing loss. The question of the best possible therapy for these intracochlear growing schwannomas arises again and again. The incidence of intracochlear schwannomas should not be underestimated, especially due to the increase of diagnostic options using high-resolution MRI images. The early resection of intracochlear schwannomas with simultaneous Cochler Implant treatment seems to be a promising therapeutic option. This work reports of 16 patients with severe sensorineural hearing loss due to an intracochlear schwannoma and their treatment options.
