Surgical therapy of tertiary hyperparathyroidism-indication, operation, results
The surgical treatment of tertiary hyperparathyroidism is a challenge for the endocrine neck surgeon and requires close cooperation with various medical disciplines (nephrology, nuclear medicine, endocrinology). We describe our procedure from the indication by the nephrologists to the planning of the surgical procedure and describe our results with special attention to the postoperative parathyroid hormone housekeeping in 10 of the patients we operated on. Special emphasis is placed on the function-preserving reimplantation of parathyroid tissue during the operation.
