SURGICAL APPROACH TO PERIAMPULAR TUMORS
Authors
Pancreatic neoplasia is the second in the gastrointestinal tract and the fourth cause of lethality on a global scale. Pancreatic cancer is often associated with a poor prognosis, highlighted by the close parallel between incidence and mortality. Pancreatectomy duodenopancreatectomy or gastroduodenopancreatectomy (Whipple's surgery) remains the main curative treatment option for pancreatic head cancer. Survival remains low, between 5% and 20%, and related to several factors - most importantly considering the late stage in which most patients are diagnosed. Retrospective cohort study using medical records of patients submitted to duodenopancreatectomy in a referral hospital for a period of 3 years. There was prevalence in men in an average age of 55.8 years, whose most prevalent sign was jaundice. More than 70% underwent gastroduodenopancreatectomy, with single-loop telescopic pancreatic anastomosis, although surgical morbidity is within acceptable range, but mortality is still high when compared to large referral centers.
