The 1-aza-diene 3 obtained from 3-benzylidene camphor 1 and p-anisidine 2 upon complexation with iron carbonyls provides the chiral tricarbonyl iron transfer reagent 4. Ligand exchange with prochiral cyclohexadienes 5 gives optically active tricarbonyl iron complexes with up to 64 % ee.
