Das Erkennen und Einordnen von Mikroverkalkungen nimmt in der Befundung von Mammographien einen wesentlichen Raum ein. Dies liegt am häufigen Vorkommen von Mikroverkalkungen, ihrer Assoziation mit gutartigen wie bösartigen Erkrankungen der Brust sowie ihrer morphologischen Vielgestalt, die nur teilweise mit der Dignität der zugrunde liegenden Gewebeveränderungen korreliert.
Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden die relevanten Merkmale von Mikroverkalkungen und Vorschläge für ihre adäquate Beschreibung genannt. Die Kriterien für die Beurteilung dieser Merkmale hinsichtlich ihrer Dignität werden beschrieben und das sinnvolle und notwendige weitere Vorgehen.
Ein Schwerpunkt des Beitrags liegt auf der Vereinfachung oftmals verwirrender Klassifizierungsschemata von Mikroverkalkungen. Für den eiligen Leser: s. Zusammenfassung auf S. 384
