Zusammenfassung
Die Ergebnisse experimenteller und epidemiologischer Studien legen nahe, dass dem oxidativen Stress in der Entstehung und Progression der Atherosklerose im Menschen eine wichtige Bedeutung zukommt. Diese konnte in prospektiven Endpunktstudien bislang nicht nachgewiesen werden. In der vorliegenden Übersicht wird der aktuelle Stand der Literatur zusammenfasst.
Summary
Results from experimental and epidemiologic studies suggest an influence of oxidative stress on development and progression of atherosclerosis in man. Prospective endpoint studies failed to support this hypothesis. The current literature is summarized in this review.
