Evidenzbasierte Kieferorthopädie

Zusammenfassung

Die Konzepte der evidenzbasierten Medizin (EbM) sind seit dem Jahr 2000 in der Kieferorthopädie auf zunehmendes Interesse gestoßen. Dies zeigt sich in diesem Thema gewidmeten Editorialen mehrerer kieferorthopädischer Fachzeitschriften, der angekündigten oder bereits umgesetzten Umgestaltung englischsprachiger Journale im Sinn der EbM sowie in einigen Artikeln in zahnärztlichen Zeitschriften. Diese Entwicklung hat jedoch auch Widerstand hervorgerufen, so dass die EbM in der Kieferorthopädie bis jetzt nicht als allgemein anerkanntes Konzept betrachtet werden kann.

Abstract

The concepts of evidence-based medicine (EBM) have attracted increasing interest in orthodontics since the year 2000. This can be shown in editorials dedicated to this issue in several orthodontic journals, the announced or already implemented reorganization of English-language journals as well as in some articles in dental journals. However, this development has provoked notable resistance, so that EBM cannot yet be regarded as a generally accepted standard in orthodontics.
