Grundlagen

Die physiologische Funktion des Ovars, gekennzeichnet durch die Bereitstellung der Eizellen sowie Produktion der Sexualhormone Östradiol und Progesteron, bildet die Grundlage weiblicher Fertilität. Beide Prozesse sind eng miteinander verwoben und während der reproduktiven Jahre in optimaler Weise aufeinander abgestimmt. Der Menstruationszyklus - auf ovarieller Ebene unterteilt in Follikelreifung, Ovulation und Gelbkörperphase - ist Ausdruck dieses mit großer Regelmäßigkeit ablaufenden Geschehens. Das Verständnis der Steuerung dieses Prozesses ist Grundlage für die Diagnostik eventuell auftretender Störungen.
