Nach Studium dieses Artikels sollte der Lesende einen Überblick bekommen über die Klassifikation der Ataxien in erbliche, nicht-erbliche (degenerative, idiopathische und sporadische Formen) sowie symptomatische Formen. Grundzüge von Klinik, Diagnostik, Genetik und (meist nur symptomatischer) Therapie sollen vermittelt werden.
