Summary

There are approximately 13 million Germans to suffer from hearing loss or deafness. Hearing impaired people encounter various communication difficulties especially when seeking medical and dental care. Therefore it is very important to prevent any misunderstanding and provide solutions for an enhanced and successfull communication. Guidelines on communicating with the hearing impaired dental patient are still missing. This paper is concerned with background information and introduces recommendations for an unrestricted dentist-patient communication.
