Ziele: To monitor changes in volume of uterus and dominant leiomyoma after bilateral uterine artery embolisation (UAE) in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by a volume-measurement-tool and to correlate with symptom related results. Methode: 108 women (mean age, 41 years) with symptomatic leiomyoma were treated with bilateral embolisation of the uterine arteries. Magnetic resonance imaging and evaluation of symptom-related results by a standardized Questionnaire were performed 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after treatment. Volume measurement of uterus and dominant leiomyoma was performed by a 3D Visualization and Volume Modeling Software Tool (AmiraTM). Correlation between symptom relief and volume changes was performed. Ergebnis: Technical success was 100% (108/108). Significant (p<0.001) volume reduction of uterus and dominant leiomyoma was found. Bleeding resolved significantly (p<0.0001). Furthermore, urinary frequency and sensation of pelvic pressure improved significantly (p<0.0001). Symptom relief and volume reduction of uterus and dominant leiomyoma after UAE did not correlate (p>0.5). Schlussfolgerung: Volume reduction of uterus and dominant leiomyoma after UAE can precisely be monitored by the volume-measurement-tool used in this study. Clinical success rates are high and do not correlate with volume reduction of uterus or dominant leiomyoma.
