Summary

Following 100 radial artery cannulations with 20-gauge-Teflon cannulae, the frequency of occlusion of the vessel on the day after removal of the cannula was 14 % and 2 % on the 10th day. All occluded vessels recanalized within 10 months. The frequency of complications did not correlate significantly with the duration of cannulation, the age and sex of the patient. Besides material, insertion technique, treatment and handling of the cannula there are individual factors that influence the frequency of complications.
