Abstract

A 43-year-old male had cancer of the right lung which had invaded the 2nd to 4th ribs. After right upper lobectomy and combined resection of the chest wall, the 3rd and 4th ribs were reconstructed using titanium hollow screw reconstruction plates (THORP). THORP completely prevented postoperative paradoxical respiration. The postoperative course was satisfactory. Postoperatively radiation therapy was performed, and the patient is now alive, without recurrence, 7 months after surgery. THORP is simple and eminently applicable in reconstructing the large chest wall.
