Abstract

This systematic review compares the results and the methodological quality of surgical and conservative treatment modalities for acute closed Achilles tendon rupture. The studies found in this comprehensive literature investigation were sorted according to treatment intervention type and evaluated by defined quality criteria. It could be established that open surgery of acute closed complete Achilles tendon rupture reduces the probability of re-ruptures significantly.
