Significance

Although several previous examples of the asymmetric Simmons-Smith reaction exist, this report demonstrates a bifunctional catalyst with both Lewis base and Lewis acid moieties. This catalyst was shown to be highly active and enantioselective for the asymmetric Simmons-Smith reaction. In addition, the application of this catalyst was effective at room temperature.
