Schuheinlagen mit all ihren Variationen zählen zu den häufig verschriebenen Hilfsmitteln. Eine Sonderform nehmen die sogenannten sensomotorisch wirkenden Fußorthesen (SMFO) ein. Ziel dieses Artikels ist es, einen strukturierten Überblick über SMFO und deren Wirkprinzipien zu geben, sowie Einblicke in die aktuelle Evidenzlage von muskuloskelettalen Effekten der SMFO bei Erwachsenen zu eröffnen. Neuroorthoopädische Indikationsstellungen sowie pädiatrische neuropathologische Fragestellungen werden nicht in diesem Artikel erfasst.
