Abstract

Food addiction as a special variant of impulsive and reward-dependent eating behavior is currently the subject of scientific research. Most studies are devoted to relationships between food addiction, body weight, and eating disorders psychopathological abnormalities. Only a small part sheds light on food addiction in the context of mental disorders. There are repeated reports of correlations between symptoms of food addiction and depressive and anxious symptoms. The methodology of the investigations, however, is very uneven. The selection of the patient collective plays a special role: most of the examinations are performed on patients with eating disorders and / or obesity. In order to understand the meaning of psychic abnormalities in food addiction exactly, non-clinical collectives, as well as clinico-psychiatric collectives are suitable. This review article provides current literature on the relationship between food addiction and concomitant mental disorders
