Symptomatische und asymptomatische Karotisstenose: leitlinienbasierte Therapie

Abstract

In Deutschland lebt etwa 1 Million Menschen mit einer mindestens 50 %igen Karotisstenose und die Inzidenz karotisassoziierter Schlaganfälle liegt dort bei 30 000 pro Jahr. Die Prävention solcher Schlaganfälle ist also von großer Bedeutung; sie basiert weitgehend auf gefäßchirurgischen Maßnahmen. Der Beitrag fasst die Behandlungsempfehlungen der 2020 publizierten S3-Leitlinie für den deutschsprachigen Raum zusammen und erläutert die Hintergründe.
