Zusammenfassung
Xenotransplantationen sind im Licht einschlägiger medizinethischer und
-rechtlicher Kriterien sowie unter dem Vorzeichen der
Handlungsfolgenverantwortung zu erörtern. Problematisch ist, dass sie
mit Leitideen des Tierschutzes kollidieren. Andererseits ist das Anrecht von
Patient:innen auf eine dem wissenschaftlichen Stand gemäße
gesundheitliche Versorgung zu betonen. Falls die biologischen Risiken von
Xenotransplantationen beherrschbar werden sollten, könnten sie zu einem
Verfahren werden, das den Organmangel überbrückungsweise
lindert. Langfristig werden voraussichtlich andere Handlungsansätze den
Vorzug verdienen.
Abstract
Xenotransplantations are to be examined in the light of medical ethical criteria
and the assumption of responsibility for the consequences of such actions.
Patients have the right to both the preservation of life and the provision of
health care in accordance with scientific progress. However, the required use of
animals for xenotransplantation is in contradiction to today’s
understanding of animal welfare. Furthermore, the procedure entails biological
risks, e. g. xenozoonosis. If such risks became manageable,
xenotransplantation could emerge as a procedure to alleviate the shortage of
organs for a transitional period. A statutory regulation is necessary for this.
In the long term, other procedures will probably deserve preference,
e. g. organ replacement based on human stem cells.
