Zusammenfassung
Mit schätzungsweise 6–8 Mio. Infizierten und hoher Morbidität gehört die Chagas-Erkrankung zu den bedeutendsten parasitären Infektionen in Nord- und Südamerika. Trotz ihrer enormen Krankheitslast bleibt sie eine vernachlässigte Tropenkrankheit (Neglected Tropical Disease, NTD), deren Relevanz durch Migration, Globalisierung und Klimawandel jedoch zunehmend auch andere Regionen der Welt betrifft.
