Kernaussagen
Eine Demenzerkrankung bedeutet für viele Patienten nicht nur den fortschreitenden
Verlust kognitiver Fähigkeiten, sondern – abhängig u. a. von Demenzform und Krankheitsstadium
– auch eine Veränderung im Erleben und Verhalten. Die häufigsten Störungen dieser
Art sind Depression, Apathie, Reizbarkeit und aggressives Verhalten. Erlebens- und
Verhaltensauffälligkeiten belasten Erkrankte, Angehörige und Pflegekräfte oft stärker
als die kognitiven Einbußen und begünstigen eine frühe Entscheidung für eine Heimunterbringung.
Eine sorgfältige Diagnostik im Erlebens- und Verhaltensbereich ist ebenso wichtig
wie die sich daraus ergebende Ableitung geeigneter medikamentöser und / oder nichtmedikamentöser
Therapien. Pflegende Angehörige sollten in die Therapie einbezogen und im Umgang mit
schwierigen Situationen und Verhaltensweisen geschult werden.
