Abstract

Report on 70 children at the age of 3 months to 12 years, who were examined echoventriculographically (twodimensional, compound-scan). Those results were compared with the A-scan and pneumoencephalographic findings. In all cases the third ventricle was demonstrated in horizontal and vertical planes. The optical gain of the B-scan stands opposite to the better numerical measurement of the width of the third ventricle. With increasing dilatation of the ventricular system (BMI more than 3,0 by A-scan) the lateral ventricles as cavities are represented better till the age of about six years. Less severe enlargement can be illustrated in one third, extremely severe dilatation can be represented in all the cases. The twodimensional echoventriculography has to be referred in criterions of interpretation to the pneumoencephalography also with regard to tomometric findings of the skull.
