Abstract
Failure of tooth eruption is different from tooth developmental disorders and tooth
dysmaturity. Primary failure of eruption is difficult to diagnose in early stages.
The treatment is complex and it is often not possible to achieve acceptable treatment
results with orthodontic methods only. In most instances primary eruption failure
occurs spontaneously. In some well- documented cases an autosomal dominant inheritance
with varying penetrance and expressivity was found. Early diagnosis will be possible
with new analytic genetic procedures.
