Author summary
Four hundred 24-four patients with 471 displaced intraarticular calcaneal fractures
were randomized to receive either open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) or nonoperative
care. Satisfaction was evaluated based on short form-36 and visual analog scale scores.
No statistically significant differences were reported in either SF-36 or VAS scores
following ORIF versus conservative treatment. However, regardless of treatment type,
patients receiving Workers' Compensation scored significantly lower on both assessments
than those who were not receiving Workers' Compensation.
