Significance

The authors report a diastereoselective rhodium-catalyzed three-component reaction using aryldiazoacetates, benzyl alcohols, and β,γ-unsaturated α-keto esters. The diastereoselectivity observed is switchable and predicated on the co-catalyst used (InBr3 vs. AgBF4). The authors claim the origin of the diastereoselectivity switch to lie in ‘chelation and non-chelation modes’ of control.
