Einleitung

Unser Leben wird von unserer inneren Uhr bestimmt. Diese biologische Uhr beeinflusst unter anderem unser Schlafverhalten, unsere Stimmung und unsere körperliche Verfassung. Dass die Tageszeit auch medizinische Parameter beeinflusst, zeigt sich z. B. bei der Messung von Blutdruck und Körpertemperatur: Am Tag und in der Nacht variieren die Werte. Bekannt ist außerdem, dass auch der Hormonhaushalt von der Tages- und Nachtzeit abhängt. Diese Variationen beeinflussen unser Verhalten und unseren Gesundheitszustand. Die Chronobiologie ist daher ein wichtiger Forschungsbereich für Mediziner und hat in den letzten Jahren mehr und mehr an Bedeutung gewonnen.
