Zusammenfassung

Die pädiatrische Intensivmedizin und -pflege steht einerseits im Schatten der neonatologischen Intensivmedizin und schwimmt andererseits im Fahrwasser der Erwachsenen-Intensivmedizin. Die Beatmung von Kindern und Jugendlichen stellt jedoch eine große Herausforderung angesichts der altersbedingten Problematik dar und sollte deshalb individuell betrachtet werden. Als eigenständiges Therapiekonzept innerhalb der Beatmungsmedizin hat sich die nicht-invasive Beatmung entwickelt.
