Zusammenfassung
Anhand von Goethes Gedicht wird aufgezeigt, dass Sehnsucht ein aufgrund einer konkreten
Verlusterfahrung im Objekt wohlbestimmter Seelenzustand der Trauer und des leidvollen
Verlangens ist, in dem die Verlangenden zur Untätigkeit verurteilt sind. Auch wenn
den Verlangenden ihr Zustand unendlich zu sein scheint, ist Sehnsucht grundsätzlich
ein vergänglicher Zustand. Um 1800 entsteht das Konzept der romantischen Sehnsucht,
dem zufolge das Menschsein als solches durch Sehnsucht (im Sinne einer anthropologischen
Kategorie) gekennzeichnet sein soll. Wie am Beispiel Eduard Sprangers gezeigt wird,
bestimmt das Konzept der romantischen Sehnsucht die wissenschaftliche Pädagogik sowie
die Alltagspsychologie bis weit ins 20. Jahrhundert. Unter dem Aspekt diagnostisch-therapeutischer
und gesellschaftsanalytischer Relevanz plädiert der Beitrag für eine Rückkehr zum
ursprünglichen Konzept der Sehnsucht und für eine phänomenologische Abgrenzung gegen
verwandte Erscheinungen.
Abstract
The title of the paper is taken from a famous poem by Goethe which in this paper serves
to characterize the nature of longing. Caused by the experience of a loss, longing
is a psychic state of suffering and sadness which mostly has a beloved person as its
intentional object. Further features of longing are that the longing person feels
doomed to passivity and that the state of longing seems of endless duration though
longing in principle is a passing state. About 1800 emerged what might be called the
concept of romantic longing. Now longing is conceived, in an anthropological manner,
as something which characterizes the existence of human beings as such. This concept
of romantic longing had a very widespread effect on the 20. Century pedagogical thinking
(a book of the very influential Eduard Spranger serves here for evidence) and even
on the folk psychology of our times. With respect to the question which concept of
longing may prove to be helpful for diagnostic, therapeutic or other analytic purposes,
the paper pleas for a return to the old concept of longing which should be further
elaborated by comparing it with other related phenomena.
