This issue of Facial Plastic Surgery was conceptualized during a conversation I had with Dr. Tony Sclafani. That enthusiastic conversation was about our taking note of the ever-growing and successful community of facial plastic surgery. We have witnessed effective international leadership and the development of the community of expert surgeons worldwide. The worldwide community has grown into an intercommunicating network of many surgeons who work and identify themselves as facial plastic surgeons.

Advancements in the field have been due to the painstaking work and dedication of what started as a small number of individuals. At this time of celebration and recognition of the success of the world of facial plastic surgery, we must also pay solemn homage to the passing of two great surgeons who catalyzed much of the international growth of facial plastic surgery, Mr. Tony Bull and Dr. Claus Walter.

The Facial Plastic Surgery knowledge base continues to grow and expand. The communication is derived from the universal language of quality and evidence-based standards that have benefited patients all over the world. Surgical results continue to be more predictable and stable. Quality of life for patients is positively impacted as a result. All the above has been made possible through the relentless pursuit of excellence by many committed individuals.

Read on. This issue will mark many of highpoints of the present state of the discipline worldwide. Many of the topics are based on presentations the authors have given at conferences over the last year. Enjoy the observations and comments of the professionals you already know, and academically meet new colleagues and notables you will see continually contribute to our understanding of technique and results. Onward!!
