Summary

The varicocele testis is the key symptome of the pelvic congestion syndrome in males. The idiopathic varicocele is mostly leftsided. While the pathomechanisms are multifactorial, the most important role can probably be attributed to hemodynamic factors. As the most common correctable cause for male infertility, the ideopathic varicocele is of great clinical importance. In the adolescent male, it is associated with impairment of testicular growth and maturation. An early diagnosis and operative treatment is therefore necessary. Various techniques are established for varicocelectomy with antegrade sclerotherapy frequently being the method of choice.
