Zusammenfassung
Hydrastis canadensis L., Kanadische Gelbwurz, ist eine Ranunculaceae (Hahnenfußgewächs), die in Nordamerika
beheimatet, seit dem Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts zunächst in den Arzneischatz der USA,
dann aber auch in europäische Arzneibücher aufgenommen wurde und bis heute in der
Ph. Eur. mit einer Monografie (Hydrastidis rhizoma) vertreten ist. Der Gehalt an Isochinolin-Alkaloiden
begründet ein breites Spektrum an Wirkungen, wie antimikrobielle, kardiovaskuläre,
gastrointestinale und entzündungshemmende Effekte, die in der traditionellen Phytotherapie
genutzt wurden. Wegen des relativ hohen Alkaloidgehalts ist die Droge für die Selbstmedikation
nicht geeignet. Zubereitungen werden heute aber für vielfältige Indikationen in der
Homöopathie eingesetzt.

Hydrastis canadensis L., goldenseal
Hydrastis canadensis L., goldenseal, belongs to the family of Ranunculaceae and is originated in Northern
America. The drug was used for different therapeutic approaches in the Unites States
and transferred also to European pharmacopoeias since end of the 18th century. Today
Hydrastis rhizome (goldenseal rhizome) is monographed in the European Pharmacopoeia
8.2. Because of the presence of isoquinoline alkaloids the drug induces a broad spectrum
of pharmacological activities, e.g. anti-microbial, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal
or anti-inflammatory effects used in the traditional medicine for a long time. Self-medication
with the drug is not recommended due to the high content of alkaloids. Homeopathic
preparations for different indications are used today.
