Abstract

Sudden cardiac arrest, a leading cause of death in developed countries, requires instant and efficient cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and post-resuscitation care. Recently, the 2015 American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines Update for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the corresponding 2015 European Resuscitation Council (ERC) Guidelines for Resuscitation were published as individual papers in Circulation and Resuscitation, respectively. These guidelines provide essential treatment algorithms for the resuscitation of children and adults with sudden cardiac arrest including basis life support and advanced interventions. This article summarizes the new AHA/ERC recommendations for the management of resuscitation in adult patients, with a particular focus on issues relevant for clinical cardiologists.
