Summary

The case report presents an individual integrative therapeutic approach in palliative breast cancer. The focus is on Hellebore niger (Christrose), a herbal formula that has received little attention in complementary oncology so far. We used Hellebore niger D12 in form of daily cold inhalations for dyspnea and dry coughs caused by pleural effusion and administered D12 injections s. c. for immunmodulation and diuretic effects. In combination with complementary and conventional therapies we also achieved good results as to cachexia, loss of muscles, sleeplessness, reduction of fear and restlessness that are common problems in palliative care. Very important is to see that there were no side effects or interactions with other therapies. After 9 months of complex integrative program the pleural effusion could no longer be detected and all other tumor manifestations were in regression. The multiple positive effects of Hellebore niger in concert with the other therapies did not only improve the life quality of the patient but also lead to impressive treatment effects. It is therefore worthwhile to include Hellebore niger in complementary concepts and to study further its broad active profile.
